WHAT IS DISCOVER PERIOD?

In the 7th period of the daily schedule, students participate in Homework Hall, enrichment activities, and community building events.

Twice a week students will work independently in a silent Homework Hall, located in the multi-purpose room, along with classmates from their own grade level as well as one other grade level. Teachers from these grade levels will have an opportunity to work with individual students, or groups of students in other classrooms, for extra help. This is also an opportunity for teachers to hold students accountable for taking responsibility to complete homework assignments.

Twice a week students also participate in enrichment activities. These activities may include sports such as soccer, arts such as drama, or clubs such as student newspaper. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to discover activities and learn new skills in a way that may be different from the rest of the school day. Students may also participate in Math Lab or Writers Workshop, led by a teacher and supported by the peer tutor program. The Discover Period activities rotate each quarter, and students are encouraged to try different activities.

Finally, every full Wednesday students participate in community building events or interdisciplinary projects with students in their grade level.
