“Science will produce the data, but never the full meaning. For perceiving real significance, we shall need….most of all the brains of poets, also those of artists, musicians, philosophers, historians, writers in general.”

VISUAL ART
Mr. Walker Grades 5-8
In Visual Art, students work with both the conceptual and the technical sides of the creative process through a variety of 2-D and 3-D projects. With an emphasis on empirical learning, students are challenged with work that exercises organizational skills, visual expression and editing skills. Students participate in regular VTS (Visual Thinking Strategies) sessions which expand on both their aesthetic literacy as well as their critical thinking skills. Technical skills working in 2-D (drawing, painting etc.) as well as 3-D (sculptural) are developed throughout their four years with projects that build skills progressively based on in class demonstrations and individual exploration of the mediums.
Why do we make art?How does a Visual Artist communicate convincingly? What are the technical and conceptual aspects of Visual Art?What role does art play in my life?
